In the year 4670 AR, the Minghondian people, who had been living in north-east Hanaa for centuries, began noticing a bizarre ecological problem in their lands. The barren area around the mountain range close to them named Eye of the World, suddenly started to expand its desert-like terrain. They did not think much of it for the first few years, until the expansion started become worryingly rapid. By the year 4689 AR The once lush fields of Lora's Garden started laying barren, and panic set in for the Minghondian people.
Realizing they needed to find new fertile land and more fresh water for their crops, many of them deserted Lora's Garden and headed west to settle there. This greatly agigated the Hanaian people that live in Hanaadin, which eventually led to violent clashes between the two peoples. Feeling a sense of dread, urgency and danger, the Minghondians abruptly halted their iron trade with the Hanaians and started using the metal to forge weapons. The sudden lack of iron created an even more hostile political situation, with both sides isolating themselves and cutting lines of communication.
In the year 4711 AR, a rain of arrows landed in the Hanaian village called Driftwood, killing many of its inhabitants. The Minghondian leadership denied responsibility and blamed a rebel faction, but the - otherwise peaceful - Hanaian leadership did not take long in declaring a war for survival against the Minghondian race.
What followed was a nine year all-out war that was eventually named the War of Rancor, after the bitterness of being forced into conflict against fellow humans.
The Hanaian military's effectiveness proved subpar over the course of the war, choosing to fight in disadvantegous theaters. Coupled with a shortage of iron after the Minghondians cut off all trade and cut off trade routes to Layera, the main army lost a critical battle in the year 4719 AR, routing them entirely and leaving open the road to Hanaadin.
The Minghondians rapidly invaded the capitol of Hanaadin and rebranded it Minghonda to commemorate their victory. The mountain range of Minghterran were renamed the Ridges of Redoubt to remember the fallen. Many Hanaians eventually fled from the new rule of law to the deep south of the country, in a new settlement they called Hanaastead.
